The archive has been split into 16 categories which are being catalogued and uploaded over time. The first seven categories are available via the links below. There is more information about the collection, and some sample pictures, below.
First World War | Second World War | Sporting Shillington |
Working the Land | Shillington Schooldays | Sacred Shillington |
Shillington Pubs |
There are also several videos of village views, activities and concerts, which can be viewed via Phil Dickson-Earle’s YouTube channel. Search within his page for ‘Shillington’ or ‘Joy to the World’.
Many local residents have kindly donated photographs to the Parish Council. They were scanned, printed and mounted by Peter and Janet Watts. Many people have enjoyed coming to see them at the annual exhibition at the Village Hall.
The next job is to catalogue them and make them available online. There are over 800 photographs, so this will take a little while. Once completed, the photographs will be available online under categorised headings (Buildings, farming, schooldays, sports etc.) A searchable catalogue will also be available online to enable casual viewers and researchers alike to easily find what they are looking for.
If anybody has any additional information about any of the photos, I would be delighted to hear from you. Thank you, Andy Gibbs.
